International travel with children may seem daunting, however there are many safe international destinations, chock-full of activities that everyone in the family will enjoy. The following cities are a few of the most family-friendly destinations you can visit, this summer.

1. Copenhagen, Denmark

The most famous family attraction in Copenhagen is Tivoli Gardens. One of the oldest amusement parks in the world, it offers rides for all ages, beautiful gardens, historic exhibitions and theatre shows. It would be easy to spend an entire day at Experimentarium City, a science museum that boasts over 300 displays and provides awe-inspiring workshops and demonstrations to the public. Transportation within the city of Copenhagen is easy–you have the option of train or bus, where there is ample reserved space for strollers and families. Since the city is one of the most bike-friendly in the world, renting bikes for the entire family is a great way to sightsee and get around as well.

2. North Island, New Zealand

One of the most adventurous destinations on the planet, New Zealand has endless offerings of recreational activities and attractions for your family. In the Central North Island, your family can delve into the world of J.R.R. Tolkien and explore the fantastical Hobbit on the set of the Shire. To get your family out on the water, take a dolphin tour in the Bay of Islands. The Rock Cruise in the Bay of Islands is a 22-hour, overnight cruise where the family can indulge in swimming, snorkeling and catching seafood. A visit to The Auckland Zoo is another must-do, as the park hosts over 183 species and 875 animals, many of which are native to New Zealand.

3. Toronto, Canada

If you’re looking to visit a big city, Toronto is one of the safest large cities in North America to bring your family. Crime rates have been relatively low for a number of years but have noticeably dropped 33 percent, between 1998 and 2008. At Toronto’s waterfront, sailboat and powerboat rentals are available to explore Lake Ontario and get a great view of the city. If interested in captaining your own boat to explore the city, a boat operator license is fairly easy to obtain. Riverdale Farms, best for kids ten and under, is a seven-acre replica of an early 20th century Ontario farm. It’s an opportunity to experience a rustic, technology-free lifestyle in a charming and historic setting.

4. Phuket, Thailand

Vibrant culture, breathtaking nature and delicious food can all be found in Phuket, Thailand. This beach-laden city is one of the most accommodating for families in all of Southeast Asia. There are many all-inclusive resorts with beach access to provide your family with a comfortable and relaxing place to settle. While Phuket’s coastal location provides a slew of recreational opportunities like snorkeling, scuba diving and water sports, there are also many out-of-the-ordinary and cultural activities to take part in. Zorbing is an activity the whole family will get a kick out of. You can race down the breathtaking hills overlooking Kalim Beach, inside an inflatable, plastic ball that measures three meters in diameter. Phuket FantaSea is an extravagant showcase of Thailand’s culture, involving dancing, traditional costumes and exotic animals.
